Max Chen

Style-Revisited Paragraph Portraits HR-5Founder and Artistic Director of dance collective, PARAGRAPH, Max is a graduate from State University of New York, College at Purchase (U.S.A) with Bachelor of Fine Arts – Dance General. Max was a former company dancer with Frontier Danceland from 2009-2011. His performance in Royston Fan's "Alone" in national choreographic competition, SPROUTS 2010 won him the title of Best Dancer. Max's choreographic works has been showcased by Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Department of Dance, Frontier Danceland, Maya Dance Theatre and Singapore Dance Theatre. Max was also former part-time lecturer with NAFA Dept. of Dance where he taught Specialized Contemporary Dance Technique.


 Sherry Tay

imageSherry Tay directed and performed in Loop Theory, presented by The Substation. TODAY's arts reporter Mayo Martin listed is one of the top 10 local arts production of 2011. She has done several site-specific performances at Post Museum, The Substation, Fort Canning Park, and The ArtScience Museum. She has also collaborated with ECNAD for Fireball 2011, and performed with John Mead's MI Arts.

Tay was a full time dance artist with T.H.E Dance Company from 2012 to 2015 and has performed in works by Kuik Swee Boon, Kim Jae Duk, Xing Liang, Dimo Kirilov and Jeffrey Tan. She toured with the company to festivals in France, Italy, Denmark and Korea. She has also created "Nocturnal Affairs" for New Vision 2014 where audience experienced a performance while standing in the dark.

Newly freelance, Tay is looking forward to further explore the little dance within herself and encourages everyone to do the same too.

Jereh Leong

Jerehinvolved in the contemporary dance scene, Jereh wants to ignite emotions and imagination. He finds challenge in engaging himself in multi-disciplinary works. Recent involvement with local theatre companies, TheatreWorks and The Necessary Stage brought about such performance opportunities. He has also performed at the Festival d'Hivernale Avignon(France), Substation's Septfest (Singapore) and his works performed at Esplanade's dansfestival and the Arts Science Museum Singapore.

Jereh graduated from SEAD, Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, Austria. He was actively involved in the performance company of the school, Bodhi Project, touring London, Slovenia and Austria. He is also an alumni of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in choreography under the tutelage of Cultural Medallion, Mdm Lim Fei Shen. He has worked with Frontier Danceland (Singapore), Xavier Le Roy (France), Ole Khamchanla (France), Martin Sonderkamp (Berlin), Oleg Soulimenko (Moscow/Vienna), Matej Kejzar (Brussels/Slovenia), Wallie Wolfgruber (New York), Noa Zuk (Israel) and Ah Hock and Peng Yu (Singapore).

Bernice Lee

BerniceFaceBernice Lee is a contemporary dance artist with Maya Dance Theatre, most recently performing in M1 T.H.E. Contact Festival, in various works byBerniceFacelocal and international creators, as well as her own, at Bangkok and Jogjakarta International Arts Festivals. She has performed in "Retrospective" by Xavier Le Roy at Theatreworks, and in works for Frontier Danceland from 2012 to 2014. As a choreographer, Bernice has created "Tales Tales Tails" (2013 with Shahrin Johry), "Living National Creatures" (2013), "Security" (2012), "Nine Dancing Together" (2011), amongst other things. She has also worked with Strangeweather Movement Group and collaborated with interdisciplinary artists.

A National Arts Council Bursary recipient, Bernice received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance (Hons. Dist.) from The Ohio State University in May 2010.

Shahrin Johry

shaShahrin is an avid dancer and talented choreographer. He is currently the assistant choreographer for Maya Dance Theatre. Shahrin joined Maya Dance Theatre in 2007, and has performed with Maya Dance Theatre locally and overseas in various festivals and dance events.

Shahrin was awarded the Most Promising Choreographer award for SPROUTS competition 2012. Also in 2012, Shahrin presented his choreography, PATH, at the Jogja International Arts Festival and Asia Tri Festival in Indonesia. In 2012, Shahrin was mentored by KT Nelson, assistant artistic director of ODC Dance (USA) for his choreography.
In June 2013, his choreography PATH, mentored by Kavitha Krishnan, was presented at the Accidental Festival, London, UK at The Roundhouse Theatre. Shahrin has also toured Singapore and Malaysia for GREY.

In 2014, Shahrin was selected to be part of World Dance Alliance (WDA) Southeast Asia chorelab at Rimbun Dahan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and also competed an intensive 12 days choreographic lab workshop in Italy.

Ezekiel Oliveira
Creative Director of FiveLines –a contemporary dance initiative in Singapore.

Ezekiel  042Ezekiel is originally from Portugal where he studied new circus and contemporary dance. He graduated from London Contemporary Dance School in 2007 and has since performed extensively in the U.K and Europe works by Tamzin Fitzgerald, Hofesh Schechter, Stephan Koplowitz, Henrique Cabrera, Helene Blackburn, Libby Seward and Alaine Handa.

With Balbir Singh Dance Company he created 'Decreasing Infinity' and 'Synchronized'- Cultural Olympiad 2012. He was guest dance artist for 'DisGo' in 2010 and in 2011 Ezekiel created 'Blake Diptych', 'Innocence and Experience' in collaboration with Fleur Darkin Company.

Ezekiel has been teaching and lecturing in contact improvisation, floor work technique, choreography and repertoire for the last 5 years. He is a regular guest teacher at Bolzano Danza, LASALLE College of the Arts and NAFA amongst others, as well as teaching company class for both Frontier DanceLand and T.H.E. Dance Company.

Ezekiel teaches contemporary dance in a wide range of settings, professional classes/training, universities, colleges and dance festivals.

In 2014 Ezekiel brings together his skills, knowledge and new collaborators under one roof in Singapore – FiveLines.

May 2015 sees the premiere of Skin - A Choreographic Response for Singapore Art Museum produced by FiveLines and choreographed by Ezekiel Oliveira.


Goh Shou-Yi

GOH Shou‐Yi graduated from SUNY Purchase College Conservatory of Dance, New York (BFA in Dance) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore (Diploma in Dance), under the full scholarship of the National Arts Shou-Yi GohCouncil of Singapore.

As a choreographer, GOH has created for works for Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, LASALLE College of the Arts, and T.H.E. Second Company. While his works have been presented in the ESPLANADE da:ns FESTIVAL, M1 CONTACT Festival as well as in both T.H.E. Dance Company & T.H.E. Second Company's choreographic platforms.

As a dance performer and educator, GOH has performed and taught in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and United States of America.

GOH will be working on a new creation collaborating with an artist from the Seoul Dance Collection, as part of Asian Festivals Exchange between M1 Contact Festival 2015 and Seoul Performing Arts Festival 2015.
